PocketQuest

A family app that turns a child’s daily routines into a game with tasks, points and rewards. Children come back to their daily plan more willingly, and parents set tasks and rewards in one place.

About the project

It started with Eryk

Eryk has ADHD. Tasks and routines had always helped him, but a plan on paper gave him little reason to come back to it. I wanted something that would encourage him and fit the things he enjoys.

My role

As his dad, I knew who I was designing for. I set the rules, built the app with coding agents and adjusted it through daily use. Later I made it work for separate families, each with their own children, plans and rewards.

Routines in a world worth returning to

A parent sets the plan and chooses the rewards. A child works through tasks, earns points, opens chests and trades points for something they want. A difficult day does not erase earlier progress: points are never deducted.

The child’s phone pairs with the family account. Each child has a separate plan and progress, while the parent manages everything in one place.

Something personal can be useful to others

I started with a need at home. Now I can share the result with other families for free, at least for the time being. That is what interests me about building software today: a modest budget can get you something very specific to your life, which might also help someone else.

Where AI works

Working with coding agents kept development affordable and let me try ideas at home as I built. AI also helped create the illustrated world.

Result

An app built for my son became a product other families can use.
